Volunteer Abroad Programs
Volunteering overseas is the chance for you to make a personal contribution at the global level, to experience hands-on learning about another country and culture, and to exchange ideas with people you might not otherwise meet. As a volunteer, you will learn from the communities where you work, and from the experience of travelling in the country and interacting with new people. Volunteering overseas is a life-changing experience. You are sharing your enthusiasm, time, skills, and energy and giving “yourself” in a way that allows you to effect positive change.
Making a difference can be as simple as spending time with orphans, sharing love and affection, sharing stories and photos with the elderly in a community, or practising Basic English or Mathematics with students of all ages and also teach computer. Similar basic volunteering needs in your home community exist overseas, and anyone with an interest in filling those needs can make a difference. The life-changing experience does not end when you return home. Another important part of overseas volunteering is getting involved in your own community back home. For some, this will mean remaining aware of, or active in, global issues; for others it may mean educating friends and family about the realities of the country where they were a volunteer. For everyone, returning home is an opportunity to share the enthusiasm and inspiration of your experience and be a voice for greater social involvement. By sharing your international volunteer experience with those in your home community and finding ways to incorporate what you learned into your daily life, you play an important role in fostering cultural understanding between people of various backgrounds.
HIV/AIDS PROGRAM
AIDS causes the deaths of approximately 8,200 people every single day, the majority of them in poor countries. International trade rules mean that drugs to treat the disease are too expensive for most poor people; the scope of the disease means that parents die and children are left both orphaned and head of the family; badly maintained infrastructures mean there are no doctors or health clinics for over 30 kilometres.
FWF has been working on HIV/AIDS, giving practical support to people living with the disease in some various towns, as well as campaigning .In Africa a shocking 60 million people have been directly affected by the epidemic. Ghana National AIDS Commissions and community support groups that act as lifelines in hard-hit regions. We have expanded our work across the region to help vulnerable people, such as trafficked women and girls forced into prostitution, to fight for affordable treatment and access to AIDS prevention information. Orphanage Placement Program
FWF's main focus currently is the support of children whose parents have died from HIV/AIDS and many other related accidents. In the Greater Accra Region, there are many children who have no one to look after them after the death of their parents. These children are forced onto the streets, where they collect rotten food and beg to survive. On the streets, they no longer possess the right of being treated when they get sick, of obtaining an education, or of sleeping under a roof on a full stomach. FWF provides orphans and street children with these basic rights.
At the orphanage, children are taught how to read, write, garden, work with wood, and play sports. They are given a chance at a better life. The orphanage is based in the Teshie and Osu, not far from the city centre. READ MORE....
